On May 10, 1965, the Vietnamese paper Nhan Dan carried the full text of the statement issued by the Vietnamese Government about the area the US Government had designated as a "combat zone" for the U.S armed force in Viet Nam. By pointing out that U.S. Government's decision affected China's territorial sea around the Xisha Islands, the Government fo the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam explicitly recognized the Xisha Islands as Chinese territory.
